Chapter Six

Conner woke in unfamiliar sheets. He groaned, waiting for fear and panic to set in, but his tabby told him it there was nothing to fear. Powerful hands were wrapped around his waist and a warm solid body pressed against his back, comforting and safe.

“Hayden,” Conner murmured, suddenly aware of Hayden’s dick, buried in him.

“Are you finally awake, pet?” Hayden asked behind him, drawing his prick out of Conner.

Turning, Conner faced Hayden. “Were you watching me sleep?”

“No harm looking at what’s mine, right?”

Understanding the implication of those words, that what happened the night before wasn’t a one-night fling, Conner swallowed. It couldn’t be, not after the mind-blowing sex and Hayden’s intense words. “Hayden, what’s going to happen next?”

Furrowing his brows, Hayden regarded him. “I meant what I said, Conner. You’re mine if you agree to it, but I’ll respect any decision you’ll make. I know there are still plenty of things you’re keeping from me.”

Hayden had been nothing but honest with Conner about his intentions and wants, the least Conner could do was repay the Alpha with the same courtesy. Trust didn’t come to Conner easily, but Hayden wasn’t the least bit like Randy or the assholes that came before Randy. Conner decided to take a leap of faith. He told Hayden his story, about Randy’s abusive ways and how the escalating violence sent Conner running for his life and his pup’s. In between breaks, Hayden made breakfast, eggs and bacon, and brought coffee to bed.

Not leaving any detail out, Conner laid himself bare. He started having second thoughts the moment he finished. Hayden didn’t say anything for a long moment, and his expression was hard to read—schooled to neutrality.

“Are you disgusted, disappointed? Please say something, anything,” Conner said desperately. Shaking his head, Hayden brought him close, clasping the back of Conner’s neck. Conner was all but helpless to receive his kiss.

“Never again,” Hayden said, releasing Conner’s swollen lips. “Never be ashamed of yourself for being brave and doing the right thing.”

Conner’s stomach started doing flips. Tears gathered in his eyes and he wasn’t a weepy person by nature. Angrily, Conner rubbed at his eyes. “The right thing is not dragging you into my mess. Hayden, I come with strings attached. I’m carrying the pup of a maniac after my hide, can you live with that?”

“Yes. If I can’t convince you, I’ll prove it to you.”

“How?”

“By helping you get back on your feet. Blue Moon isn’t the worst place to settle down. What do you say, pet, will you give me and my town a chance?”

Conner let out a hysterical laugh. “I should be the one saying that. Thank you, Hayden.”

“I can think of ways you can thank me,” Hayden said, a glint in his eyes. He flipped Conner to his side, and entered him again with no difficulties, with Conner’s hole still slick from the lube and his cum the night before.

“God, Hayden. You drive me insane,” Conner murmured.

Privately, he didn’t tell Hayden out loud his fears and insecurities.
